What, We Are Out of Soap & Toilet Paper….Again?!

(Yes, I searched toilet paper fairy and found this.  I love the interweb!)

Unfortunately, I must say that this is a normal occurrence in our house.  You know when you completely run out of something WHEN you actually need that item.

For example, when you run in to use the bathroom and reach for toilet paper and there is one little sheet left and half of that sheet is stuck to the paper roll with glue.  And then you look in the TP holder and nothing.  And then you shout to your husband and he says “I used the last of it earlier” and brings you napkins. Nice. (It is even better when the husband isn’t there….then I think we can all admit we take whatever steps are necessary to clean up our situation.)

Or take the other morning for example.  I turn the shower on and am about ready to get in when I notice there is a tiny little sliver of what I believe use to be a bar of soap in our shower.  It was so tiny and fragile that if one were to pick it up I think it would just dissolve in their hands.  Just the day before, it was a beautiful and healthy piece of soap, which raises my suspicions of what Terry managed to do with that soap in the course of a day to make it dissolve to hardly anything. hmmmmm  So anywho, as the shower is running, I go to the closet to grab another bar of soap to which I notice there is no soap to be found in the closet.  I would like to say I was surprised by this but alas, I was not.  So instead I got to use raspberry liquid hand soap and hot water.  Yeah, I smelled fruity and felt a bit smarmy all day.

Even the cats get screwed over by people not telling me they used the last of the food and then when you go to feed the cats because they have no food in their bowls and they are looking at you with hungry eyes (I really hope every one of you sings those two words) and there is nothing you can give them and then the cats walk away, clearly showing their disapproval for you as a provider and you know something will be scratched up in the house or a pile of puke will strategically be hidden so you step it in.

We have three adults in our house but typically, based on our schedules, only one of those adults does all the shopping for the house. *cough cough* I always remind people that if you use the last of something, or better yet notice one left to let me know, but of course that is not always the case.  So instead we run around the house, sometimes awkwardly and/or half naked if we are alone, trying to find items that will fill in for the items we do not have but need.

Yeah…fun times!

Of course, I could go around weekly and take inventory of what is needed….however that is not me nor how our relationship works.  I feel we are both adults and should take responsibility for what we use and should replace items we use and it is not my sole responsibility. I am stubborn.  Now granted, if I notice something is running low, I will go get it….but many items like TP & soap (which are kept in the closet and out of sight) I may not be the one to refill the supply in the bathroom so I have no idea how low we really are.

The not so nice me is thinking about keeping my own supply of TP, soap, toothpaste and other products in a secret place so even if we run out I will ALWAYS have something for me and only me and the rest of them will learn to get their own and have to be smelly! (Insert evil laugh….BWAH HA HA!)

I just find it interesting how we always run out of stuff and no one remembers to pick up more.  What is even more interesting is when the items are gone before I get in there and I think the previous person used the last of it and when I mention it is gone T. says “yeah, it was all gone for me too”! WHAT?!

Sooooooo A) what did you use to replace the item or did you just go without, B) you couldn’t give me a heads up we were out of XYZ even if I didn't have time to go to the store first so I could at least be prepared when I was about to not have said item, or C) were you ever going to replace said item or just be stinky until the magic TP fairy delivered your monthly supply?!

Aw, the beauty that is living with someone :)

Please tell me this happens in your house too?

For the record: In ONE week we ran out of TP, toothpaste, soap, trash bags, dishwasher soap, laundry detergent, and I personally ran out of saline and some feminine products.  Why is it that it never fails that you run out of all this stuff at the same time and easily spend over $100 at the store for just a few items!  Crazy!  I really wish there was a magic fairy to make sure we always had a full supply of home items in our house!

Really?! – Recipe Edition

So I am sitting at home waiting for everyone else to come home so we can finally eat the amazing smelling Pot Roast that has been cooking in the crock-pot all day. If that wasn’t torture enough, I am also watching the food network…..which I do a lot when I am hungry. Weirdo.

While watching the food network I watched something I had to blog about. Well we all know Paula Deen doesn’t really cook "healthy food" and more so cooks food that the fat & unhealthy person in all of us really loves to eat. Which is a good thing, because we all need to splurge on occasion. However, every now and then she cooks something so crazy that even that fat person in all of us becomes health conscious and thinks “Really?!  I don't think I would eat that.  I mean it is just not right”. I witnessed one of those recipes moments ago.

The episode is all about bananas. Really?!  Bananas you say?  How does Paula make bananas ridiculous?

Let me tell you.

- She greases both a casserole pan and 12 slices of white bread with what appears to be a vat of butter
- Lays 6 slices of butter bread on the bottom of the casserole dish
- Layers 8 thinly sliced pieces of lunchmeat ham over the bread
- Layers 4 thinly sliced bananas on top of the ham
- Adds the other 6 pieces of buttered white bread
- Over the entire casserole she sprinkles 2 cups cheddar cheese, 2 cups crushed potato chips, and 6 slices cooked and chopped bacon
- THEN she whisks together 4 eggs, 1 cup milk, & 1 cup cream into a custard and pours that over everything and bakes it for 45 minutes.

(I will let you digest that)
I mean come on, REALLY?! Really Paula, you would eat that? Oh wait, you just did. I mean seriously, did you just give up and let your 3 year old nephew pick items he wanted to eat? Or is it really just that hard for you to find ways to incorporate fruit into your recipes other than when it is fried or in a pie?

Now I give people the benefit of the doubt with interesting combinations of food because I, myself, like to put very odd combinations of food together (I do love a pickle, cheese, mayo and chip sandwich once every year or so) but REALLY this just sounds gross? I am fairly certain that even someone who is stoned would see this dish and say no thanks and just eat some stale saltines and chocolate syrup.

Come on Paula. Stick to the delicious fat foods we all love and keep your fruits fried up or in pies only.

I Really Don’t Get It.

So I am not what one would call “fashion forward” and may not be the best judge of what is hip. Do we still say hip? I don’t really follow what is trendy in fashion/pop culture because I know most women only look good in 5% of what celebrities are actually wearing. I prefer comfort over style and hate shopping and spending a lot of money on clothes unless I can wear that piece of clothing all the time and with pretty much everything else I own. I tend to stay in the neutral color tones and am content wearing many different shades of grey, black, green & blue. I adore fashion shows, but when I watch things like Project Runway I only agree with the judges 30% of the time. And as we speak I am sitting in yoga pants, green & blue argyle knee socks, pink slippers, a red sweatshirt, and I have a multi-color piece of random fabric in my hair in place of a headband because I love it.

See, I love my fabric headband….

My point is, I get it….I am not the best judge of fashion. But I do know when something doesn’t make sense and should be removed from the stores promptly and that is why I have to say I just do not for the life of me get Gladiator Sandals and/or Gladiator Boots.

Now I know these came out a couple years ago, but I had really hoped it was just a phase and a bad judgment call by some designers and they would be gone by now and after one season we would never see them again. But they are still around and becoming ridiculous!

OK, maybe a simple and semi-understated gladiator sandal like this…
......would look good on some people (especially when worn with jeans). But I just don't get them in general, I mean isn't the idea to elongate your legs and not cut them off at the ankles? These shoes definitely cut off your legs when you wear them with anything other than jeans.  If you do not have large calves, are the right height, the right age, and have great legs these would look "good" on you. But then they (the crazy designers of the fashion world)  went from a simple shoe to a shoe that now has a life of its own.

SEE!

Now they are like part boot, part leg warmer, part sandal, part S&M shoe, part where is the rest of your shoe, and part WTF is going on with your legs?!?!?! IT IS TOO MUCH   There is a difference between cute strappy sandal (which I like) and an unfinished one that cuts your legs in weird places. Seriously, where is the rest of my shoe?! If I am wearing a shoe that in theory is suppose to come up anywhere from your ankle to mid calf I want the whole shoe that I am paying for….not just pieces of it. It looks like the shell of what could be a cool shoe but was never finished because the cobbler left for Mojitos and passed out the night before the shoes were to be displayed at Fashion Week. And now we are left with pieces of shoes that look very uncomfortable, have no arch support (which is important in my older age), and makes your calves look like sausages.

And the worst part is that even though the celebrities may be starting to move on to other styles (though someone needs to take all of the Olsen twins gladiator shoes away from them STAT) now the general public is starting to wear these shoes more often and I have to tell you…..it ain’t pretty.  Maybe because I live in a college town and I am exposed to girls who study the “show” Jersey Shore instead of studying where Jersey is on a map, I feel like this particular bad fashion is everywhere I look. And unfortunately mama isn’t there to tell Brittni she doesn't look like a greek goddess but rather the court jester; and instead she has a bunch of drunk girlfriends who are going to let her go out in public wearing those dreadful shoes and flattering her on how great they look because they saw Audrina where them on The Hills and she looked awesome.

Sigh

So my point of this post?  If you can pull the more simple ones off in a fashionable way, please do.  I guess I just do not like seeing 20 year olds squeeze their legs into these while they wear cotton shorts with BGSU on the butt, a too tight tank, and a scarf.  There are other people to get your fashion image from other than girls from The Hills.

So Should I Add Facebook and Texting to my Resume?!

So I was in Cincinnati last weekend and I was in my hotel, bored, and reading through some local papers/ads I had picked up (in an attempt to familiarize myself with the town my husband will be living in for a year) when I skimmed across the following job posting:

"Marketing, Promotions, Event Planner Manager

Hiring for XXXXX in downtown Cincinnati on Fountain Square. This job will require booking parties, Happy Hour events, etc. by e-mailing, texting, telephone answering, operting the company facebook, working with the Convention Bureau, the Chamber of Commerce and others."

Besides the fact that this is just a vague and I feel bad job description, I highlighted a few areas of interest. First being that the word operating is spelled operting. I think accurate spelling in a two sentence job posting is fairly important. Obviously, they are looking for a Marketing Editor as well….if anyone is interested.

Next, since when did booking parties by texting become the appropriate means of which to do business in the Marketing/Event world? I know I have been out of the event world for a few years but is this how things are done now?! “Big prty 2nite @ XXXX. Hope 2 C U there. RSVP 2 me ASAP. CU Soon!!” I mean, really. And BTW (just practicing for the job) when did actually texting become a skill set in a professional job?

Um, telephone answering? Besides the wording of this I just want to say DUH!! sigh Moving on.

Operting the company facebook. Now I realize that facebook is the new thing when it comes to marketing and many businesses are starting a facebook page and I think that is great because it is a fast way to have access to many people but does it need to be added to the job description in a newspaper ad right after telephone answering? Answer - not so much.

My point is, when I was looking for a job a couple years ago I started noticing how sloppy & unprofessional job descriptions were getting both online and in print and how places that I believe to be good places to work seemed to have very shoddy job descriptions. Now granted I know in this economy you can’t turn your nose up to every job just because you don’t like the wording in the job description, but a job description like this makes me think this job is nothing more than a joke. As much as I would love planning happy hour events, operting facebook, texting and telephone answering all day I think this job description sounds perfect for a 16 year old.

And this was not the only job description that had issues. Lazy.

Dear companies – Take a little pride in your available jobs, even if it is just facebooking and texting all day.

P.S. As an actual event planner, I am a bit insulted by how many jobs get labeled “Event Planner”. I think they just throw around that job title on any job that deals with scheduling something for a business because it seems hip and cool to have an Event Planner position. Anyone who has been a REAL Event Planner knows that, though it is a fun job at times, it is FAR more than just hosting parties and putting dates in a planner and it is a job that can kick your ass and is not always easy.

Ok, hold on while I find a way down from my soapbox.

I am not even looking for a job right now, but I can only imagine if this is how bad it is now what it will be like in a few more years!!

Smart Cars – They Don’t Seem That Smart

This is a Smart Car.

Oh wait, no, I think I may be confused.

THIS is a Smart Car.

So here is the thing, I would never EVER buy a Smart Car. Besides the fact that I just think they look ugly and they are too expensive for what you are getting; I think there is nothing about a smart car that looks safe or comfortable.

So because I enjoy lists and hate Smart cars I have decided to compile a list of reasons why I think Smart Cars are Dumb.

1) My friends’ kids have toy cars bigger than a smart car. (see pic of the little tikes car above)

2) Have you ever seen a smart car driving next to a semi-truck on the highway when everyone is going 65 miles per hour? If you have, then that image alone should be enough to scare anyone away from a not-so-smart car. I mean seriously. Are you trying to kill yourself.

3) When I see a person climb out of or into a smart car I think of a clown car. It really looks awkward and uncomfortable and not meant for someone over 5’2” or who isn’t a practicing contortionist.

4) I believe my Grandpa’s Hoveround is safer and goes faster than a smart car. And is a hell of alot cooler, did you see that commercial where the lady just spins in circles?! That is awesome.

5) I am fairly certain a person could just come by and pick up your smart car and easily walk off with it….if they really wanted one THAT bad.

6) Fact: You would not be able to make it over a speed bump, let alone an actual hill. Though in good news if you can’t actually drive up the hill you can just carry your car up the hill.

7) Question: Do you think based on the amount of space inside the car, that there is even room to have a full airbag, or do they just use a balloon? I am going with a balloon.

8) I believe the Smart car goes from 0 to 60 in a mere 5 minutes and 42 seconds*. That is almost as powerful as most lawn mower engines, almost.

9) I think if you took a turn too fast your Smart car would flip. And too fast for a Smart car is most likely 20 mph. And by flip I mean just fall over on its side.

10) If it hails, rains too hard, or a leaf falls on your smart car it may dent it.

Now, I shouldn’t be all hate'n on the Smart car as it does have a few good features, albeit completely pointless features, but good features nonetheless.

1. It takes only 6 – 1.5 volt (D) Duracell Batteries to run your smart car. Seriously, what a bargain.

2. You don’t have to worry about anyone stealing your car, because really who wants to be caught stealing a smart car.

3. You can get your smart car with a convertible top. Because that is, um, really cool and stylish….I think.

4. You and your 5 year old can have races between your smart car and their electric Kids Wheel car. Though your child may have a slight advantage.

5. You don’t have to worry about driving the car pool to work.

6. Because they made a mini bus smart car and that is just awesome. I seriously must have this.

7. In the winter you could just store your smart car on a shelf in your garage.

8. There will be less dead squirrels on the side of the road, because there is no way that a smart car could kill a squirrel and if someone did hit a squirrel it would cause a lot of damage to the car while the squirrel will remain unharmed. (And frankly, squirrels know this and are not at all afraid of smart cars.)

9. Shopping trips to the local grocers will be cheap, as all you have room to fit in your car would be one bag of groceries and a ½ gallon of milk.

10. You can fit 5 smart cars in one parking space.

So maybe the smart car isn't that bad. Oh who am I kidding, Smart cars SUCK! And if you have a smart car and this offends you I am sorry. Sorry you have a smart car and know I am right! ;)

*This is not an official number, I was just being funny. I seriously doubt the car would actually EVER reach 60 miles per hour. And for the record, I refuse to acknowledge a Smart car as an actual car.

Happy First Day of Fall!!!

Fall is my most favorite of all the seasons and now it is officially here! YAY

Oh my dear, sweet Fall…..I love you so. I am so glad you are finally back and I am looking forward to the next few months we have together. You bring so much joy and happiness to my life, you are truly the BEST of all the seasons…and I don’t care if the other seasons know I think that.

Here are some of the reasons I fell in love with you in the first place:

The weather changes and we have cooler days and nice chilly evenings.

Having the windows open to enjoy the cool, fresh air.

The leaves changing color – SO pretty. (I love going home during the fall because we have the prettiest trees back home)

Wearing fall clothes! Scarves, sweatshirts, jeans, boots, sweaters….ahhh – love it!

It is not light out at 9pm.

Those Fall days where it is really really sunny but really cool, perfection.

Drinking Apple Cider (both hot and cold)

The Smell of Fall

Halloween!

Apple Cinnamon Spice Candles.

Big pots of soup or stew for dinner.

Sitting outside by the fire…..we can do that now!

Thanksgiving!

Though it is not an essential or all weekend long activity, I do like watching football during the fall months.

Snuggling under the blankets on those extra cool nights.

Not sweating or freezing the minute I go outside. It is just perfect.

Pumpkins!

The return of new TV shows.

Hay rides, corn mazes and anything outside

Going shopping at outdoor malls in preparation for Christmas. The fall is the only time I really enjoy shopping.

Fall decorations

And pretty much everything else that I may have not mentioned!!

If you love fall, please share your favorite things.

I Love and I Strongly Dislike…

I Love:

1. Sleeping with the air conditioning on and it is nice and cool in the house and I am all cuddled up under warm blankets.

2. Edwards Pie’s (I realize I am a self-proclaimed pie hater. And yes I still hate any fruit based pies or meringue based pies. However Edward’s has cream pies….and they are amazing. My favs: cookie & cream pie, key lime pie, Hershey’s chocolate cream pie. mmmm)

3. Three day weekends and four day work weeks!

4. Baby showers, my friend’s babies, baby clothes, baby toys….ok pretty much all things baby related!

5. That I have lost some weight! It is a start.

6. That as I was listening to NPR this morning and in-between stories they played a 60 second instrumental, slightly slower version of Beck’s “Where Its At” song. (two turn tables and a microphone) Awesome.

7. That fall is pretty much here and fall clothes, shoes and accessories are in the stores!

8. The perfect Saturday “to go” breakfast which consists of a Venti non-fat vanilla latte from Starbucks and a Bagel B.E.L.T. from Tim Hortons. Yum.

9. When you spend a lot of time on a crochet project (or art project) and it turns out perfect! Seriously, I made this hat for fall and it is PERFECT. I love it.

10. Kettle corn from the Black Swamp Arts Festival. (get yours this weekend!)

I Strongly Dislike:

1. When you are all snuggled up in bed in a nice cool house and you are laying in the perfect position….....and you have to tinkle.

2. Having to wake up to go to work in the morning when you are SO incredibly comfortable where you are at.

3. The first day back to work after a three day weekend.

4. That I still have a lot more weight to lose.

5. That schools did not allow kids to watch the President’s speech yesterday, even though it was known nothing political would be talked about. Heaven forbid kids are given the chance to think for themselves.

6. When you are at the bottom of the deodorant and as you are about to use it the deodorant falls out and onto the floor and breaks into pieces making it unable to be used.

7. Plantar Fasciitis/Heel Spurs. It has been 6 months - Um ouch.

8. When you get soup to eat and it is WAY too hot to eat. I am talking it is near boiling and you have to wait like 10 minutes to even try to eat it.

9. When your maintenance light on your car comes on and you are ignoring it but then your observant husband gets in the car and sees it and asks how long it has been on. My Answer: What light? Oh that one, it just came on like a day ago. Honest answer: It has been on for about a month or more.

10. When you are excited because you think you have extra money in your account but then realize when you go through your account that your darling hubby forgot to give you a big stack of receipts and then not so much with the extra money.

A Little Thirsty, Perhaps.

So after work today I decided I was in the mood for something to drink other then the water I drink all day long. I went over to Sonic to try some of their fun drinks I have heard so much about. Now I have only been to Sonic a couple times, so I am not really familiar with all the drink options available to me. Since I was not familiar and this was a spur of the moment trip (Had I known I would have totally done my research at work prior to going) I felt I was under some pressure to see how quickly I could skim their selections and order a drink so to not be THAT person who pulls up to a drive through, has no idea what they want, and takes forever.

So after just a mild delay from rushing so the line of cars behind me didn’t get angry, I opted on the Strawberry Limeade*. After I ordered they said that I could upgrade my drink for free; I wasn't paying attention as I was still going through all the drinks available on their menu and said sure. However, had I known what I know now, I would have passed on their very generous offer. Seriously, THIS is what they handed me, a 44 ounce vat of strawberry limeade…straw included.

WHAT?!?! Do people really drink all this?

I can not believe how flipp’n big this is, ridiculous.

So when I got home I lugged the 36 of the 44 ounce beverage I bought to the kitchen counter and I began to think of all the things in my kitchen that are similar in size….just to give an idea of just how big this drink is.

A 64 ounce container of Pickles. (Why do we have so many pickles, because we loves them!)

A 48 ounce container of Vegetable Oil.

A gallon of milk.

A 64 ounce container of Ketchup (not to be confused with catsup).

Even Belle who loves to get into everything, didn't know what to think about this gigantic foam container!

So consider this your warning. If you are parched and in the mood for a beverage, this is probably your best bet. But if you are just a little thirsty, perhaps you just want to wet your whistle, I would go with the small.

*The strawberry limeade was good, but a little too sweet for me. I will try another one next time I go. Any suggestions?

Observation

I can NOT eat Cheetos without making a bright orange cheesy mess on me and everything around me. No matter how hard I try, it is simply impossible.

Dang you Cheetos.

On a side note, I do not like that Chester Cheetah is now referring to himself as, “Papa Chester” and talks creepy like. He sounds like someone who should not live within 500 feet of a school. Creepy.

The Sky Is Falling, The Sky Is Falling…Sort Of

This morning as I left my house I noticed the ground was covered with beautiful fall leaves that were falling at a rather fast and frequent pace down on me as I made my way outside. It instantly reminded me of the scene below from Edward Scissorhands where he is cutting that ice sculpture so it snows down on a blonde, pre shoplifting, Winona Ryder.

Well except for the fact that leaves were falling on me - not snow, and the leaves were coming from a tree - not a giant hunk of ice, and it wasn’t a scar faced leather clad Johnny Depp with scissors for hands making the leaves fall – just the wind blowing the leaves off the tree, and I wasn’t in a white dress spinning in circles under the snow – I was in my work clothes spinning in circles under the leaves. But still, it was almost exactly the same.

It made me happy, I love the fall.

Observation.

I know I am not one too judge, I myself am a bit OCD (mainly when it comes to numbers, patterns, and routines) but I have to say this, my neighbor is a bit anal-retentive!

Ever since we moved in she has done these weird things, but when I was unemployed for 4 months I began to observe more closely some of her habits. Sorry, but try being alone until 8 at night everyday and you will pay attention to anything!

So she lives alone and is obsessed with cleaning! She vacuums twice a week - Saturday morning and Wednesdays (I am lucky to vacuum twice a month), while I was unemployed she had a cleaner come over every other week to power clean her deck (which we still have never seen her use), and her strangest “Obsession” would be sweeping with her broom her garage and driveway.

Now folks, it isn’t like we have seen this once or twice…it is every week (weather permitting). Every week (once, twice, three or more times) she takes her broom and sweeps up the garage and driveway of her house. I mean, I have seen the inside of her garage when I get the mail and it looks cleaner than my house! You could probably sit on that cold cement garage floor and get nothing on you!!!

I know we all have strange habits, but I would think you would put your time and energy into something with a bit more reward. You know, cleaning something that won’t get dirty 5 seconds later b/c it is outside where there is a ton more DIRT! Come on, dirt free cement on your driveway….well that just doesn’t make sense to me?!?!

Like I said, who am I too judge…but I am allowed to think this is weird!

Do your neighbors do weird things?

Iron Maiden....bringing people together since 1975

So just a little observation I have made over the years in regards to my husband, Iron Maiden and Iron Maiden fans.
Everytime we go out and T. has one of his many Iron Maiden shirts on he will run into some stranger and they will start talking about Iron Maiden. It is crazy!! Over the years so many people we don't know start talking to T. b/c of Iron Maiden. Case inpoint. T. was wearing an Iron Maiden shirt today and as we were leaving Red Lobster I stopped to use the little girls room. When I came out T. was in convo with the door reservation guy about the band. Talking about their last concert, CD and other bands similar to Iron Maiden. They carried on for at least 5 more minutes after I came out! T. does not start these conversations...people start talking to him!
And like I said, this is not the first time this has happened. It happens more times then I could imagine! And I think it is awesome! It is like you never know who these fans are but they are die hard and not afraid to talk to other fans. T. doesn't understand it either - he just says it is because these people just know how awesome Iron Maiden is!! haha! So nice job Iron Maiden...your unique metal sound is bringing strangers closer together and making this world a nicer place!!! :D
Just an interesting observation!
