What we do in Our Spare Time

I know this post is corny, deal with it.

So last night Terry & I managed to get three eggs to stand eggs-actly straight up on our counter without the use of any tricks. It was an egg-trordinary feet thanks to the Equinox. The time where the sun is directly over the Earth’s equator and only 1 of 2 times you can get an egg to do this egg-ceptionally cool trick!

I have never seen this done before and always thought T. was eggs-aggerating the details, but once we got the first one to stand up I was really egg-cited and we just had to keep trying to more!

T & I had an egg-cellent night! :)

What is the Equinox: An equinox in astronomy is that moment in time (not a whole day) when the centre of the Sun can be observed to be directly above the Earth's equator, occurring around March 20 and September 23 each year.

More technically, at an equinox, the Sun is at one of two opposite points on the celestial sphere where the celestial equator (i.e. declination 0) and ecliptic intersect. These points of intersection are called equinoctial points—the vernal point and the autumnal point. By extension, the term equinox may be used to denote an equinoctial point.

  3. That is actually pretty cool.

I have NEVER heard that before and have already shared the fact that eggs stand on their own two times a year with someone else since reading your blog. :)

I love random facts like that.

  7. Someone told me that you can balance eggs on their ends year-round, but the Equinox days are the days where people have the most success. I guess the right amount of balance or something? I told that person that they were dreaming, and they just liked to ruin magical things.
