I Love....

This weekend T & I purchased a little something special for our patio. We got a fire pit, and I have to say I (we) LOVE it!

Why did we get a fire pit, you may ask. Well because T & I like to sit outside during the cooler evenings and just chill and talk and there is something about the crackle, smell, and warmth of a fire that makes that time outside that much better.

Saturday night we sat outside on a very cool night for over an hour and a half and while I drank a nice warm hot chocolate, we spent the evening talking and listening to the fire.

It was SO calming.

Here is a picture of our lovely fire in our new fire pit. My hubby did a fine job getting that thing started!

We got a medium sized fire pit as we do not have a huge patio. We also wanted something that was not cheap looking, but not expensive - this was perfect and very reasonably priced. It ended up being a perfect size for the space we have and it produces a good amount of heat for the area we use. (It doesn't get so hot you can't sit around it but warm enough to take the chill off you during the brisk fall months.)

If anyone would like to come over and drink some hot chocolate, wine, or T's very own hard cider and sit by the fire, please feel free to stop by! :)

I would also say every couple should get one of these, as I think the time spent around one is therapeutic and calming and great for your relationship to just have that time together.

Gotta Love Old Wives Tales

So my mom told me about this trick that she heard of for helping/preventing/reducing leg cramps when you sleep. So if any of you suffer from this or know someone who does, listen up!

Apparently all you do is put an unwrapped bar of soap under the fitted sheet at the foot of your bed near where your calves are… and.... there you go, no more or at least fewer leg cramps.

How does it work – I don’t know. But apparently, it really does.

It has worked for my mom for the past month or so and my mom was skeptical and kind of laughed it off when it was suggested. But later she gave it a try as medicine had not been working and she remembered when her SIL (who is a Physician’s Assistant) mentioned it worked. It was a "Well what the heck, nothing else seems to be working" kind of thing. Even my mom’s Dr. had heard of this and said that it has worked for some patients.

Google it. Short Article here. Even Snopes doesn’t have a definitive answer on this.

Seriously, no clue on how or why this works, but IF it does help even a little bit and for whatever strange reasons, that is HUGE for people who suffer from leg cramps at night.

I always think it is fun, these old wives tales that work.

Any old wives tales you would like to share with the blogging world that you KNOW works?

Orange You Glad We Picked Orange!

So the weekend before Thanksgiving we decided to FINALLY get rid of the ugly wallpaper in our kitchen and paint our kitchen. We kept going back and forth between colors for the room. We have a deep wine color in the dining room next to the kitchen, a dark sage green in the downstairs bathroom and a light brown in the living room. We wanted to make sure it all went together and didn't clash. So what did we choose at the very last minute...orange. Yeah, forget trying not to clash. Yep we went with an orange color...or surprise amber to be exact.

At first it was a bit..um...bold, lets say. But now that a week has gone by and all the stuff is in the kitchen I really really like it!! We are not quite finished with it, we want to add a copper backsplash and redue the floors...probably this summer! But for now, here are some before and after pics!! (please ignore the edging, I still have to clean some of that up!)

AFTER: (this looks a tad lighter then it really is)

We are putting a copper tile-like backsplash under the cabinets and then under those small cabinets is the sink and in that space we are going to put new lights and a piece of slate chalkboard! In our heads it looks WAY cute:)

BEFORE: Blech. I personally loved that two different wallpapers

Attention Holiday Shoppers....

I posted something about this last year, but as a reminder if you are one of those crazy...I mean brave (I kid) day after Thanksgiving shoppers, this is the website for you!

It has tons of ads for what will be going on sale for Black Friday shopping and sales that stores may have leading up to the big shopping day.

Our Curved Shower Curtain Rod!

We first saw one of these a couple years ago at a hotel and decided we HAD to have one! At the time, they were hard to find, but in the past year you can find these wonderful things pretty much anywhere; Home Depot, Lowe's, Bed Bath & Beyond, Big Lots (to name a few)!

We got ours at Home Depot for $39.99! Let me tell you, it is worth it!

"This crescent shower curtain rod features a curved design which creates real elbow room and 25% more total space. By curving in 3" at the corners and outward 6" in the center, this rod will stop leaks and increase comfort."

We do not have a huge shower so needless to say we are always bumping our shower curtain with our elbows...ick. My shower today, no bumping and it just felt more open and not so cramped!

I HIGHLY suggest one of these!
